The Tennessee Titans defense gave up an astounding 429 yards in total offense and two touchdowns from RB Zach Moss in a loss to the Indianapolis Colts this past Sunday. The defense of the Titans the past three weeks has shown inconsistency in its performances. Having games in which this team allows 200 yards total but next week allows over 400 yards just can’t happen if the goal is to win games and ultimately the AFC South. Lamar Jackson is as dynamic a quarterback as anyone in the NFL. Tennessee’s defense as well as coach Mike Vrabel and defensive coordinator Shane Bowden will have their hands full trying to contain Jackson.

It’s no secret that the Tennessee Titans have built a defense to stop the run. This team was a force to be reckoned with on defense last year, and after suffering an abysmal loss to a backup running back and backup quarterback in Indianapolis, there has to be a change coming in this week’s game, right? The Titans defense gave up 236 passing yards to an AFC South rival and this could be a sign of trouble in Tennessee. This offense is a serious challenge for any team with so much talent on the field. The Ravens do not make it easy on anyone and will not let up. Both the rushing attack and passing game are so dynamic that Lamar is set up for success.
Through five games this season, Lamar has thrown for over 150 yards in every game. In three of these five games he had over 200 yards passing. Minus the game against the Steelers last week, Jackson has above a 70% completion percentage in four of his first five games. Lamar has a proven track record that he can beat a team throwing the ball. The line is set at 227.5 yards and it’s believable that Lamar can surpass this. So far this season Lamar has put up some impressive performances throwing the ball but that has not translated in the red zone. Lamar has thrown for more than one touchdown two times — in week 2 against the Bengals and week 4 against the Browns. The other three games Lamar has not thrown a single touchdown pass. The mounting problems for the Titans is certainly starting to show, and as stated earlier, they have not been the most consistent team. One week they beat down Joe Burrow and the Bengals. Another week, they lost to a young team with a backup quarterback in Indianapolis. Even when the Titans lost an overtime game to the Chargers, there was a lot of good to build on. The very next week, we see Tennessee getting stomped by the Cleveland Browns 27-3 while giving up 341 yards of total offense. There does not seem to be a consistent factor in this team’s performance week to week and facing the best dual threat quarterback will only shine more light on this narrative. Lamar is in a prime position to find success through the air in the red zone.
Lamar Jackson Over 42.5 Rushing Yards (-110 on Bet365)
Through five games this season, Lamar Jackson has three games of over 40 rushing yards. His ceiling came against the Colts, with 101 rushing yards on 14 carries. Lamar’s floor so far has been 27 yards on nine carries against the Browns. The former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL MVP also has four rushing touchdowns so far this season. Lamar also has not needed the ball much to prove how effective he can be. With Jackson’s nine carries in their win against Cleveland, Lamar found the endzone twice on those 27 yards.
The numbers point to Lamar having himself a day in London both through the air and on the ground. The line being at 42.5 yards is a realistic bar for Jackson to surpass and he does not need double digit carries to do so with his explosive playmaking ability. The Titans’ defensive woes continued last week and if things are not corrected soon, Lamar could have his highest rushing day so far this year. The Titans allowed 193 rushing yards in their loss against the Colts. Now even if Tennessee’s defense shows up, pressuring Lamar in the pocket forces him to scramble and that could inadvertently hurt the Titans even more. With Jackson being such a talented runner at his position, game planning for him makes it that much more difficult. Lamar has started to build a legacy on running with the football, and 42.5 yards appears to be a realistic and achievable goal.
