Tennessee dropped a new hype video celebrating the career of VFL Eric Berry on Friday morning ahead of Berry’s Tennessee celebration this Saturday during halftime of the Vols’ game against Texas A&M.
Former Vol great and current Tennessee defensive analyst Robert Ayers Jr., a former AFC Champion with the Broncos during his professional playing days, provided the narration for the video that Tennessee’s social media team posted.
Berry is set to be honored during the Tennessee game this weekend ahead of his official induction into the College Football Hall of Fame this December as part of the Class of 2023.
“Memories as a player, whether he was in college or he was in the NFL— dominant, dynamic playmaker that changed the way the game was played in the middle of the football field,” Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel said about Berry this week. “He played violently, he played downhill. Just one of the best to ever play the position. I feel that way in college but also at the next level.”
The on-campus salute to Berry will take place during halftime of the A&M game.
The Georgia native still lands on Tennessee’s all-time interceptions chart, tied at the fifth spot with Deon Grant (14). The Tennessee star finished his career in Knoxville with 245 tackles, three sacks, 17.5 tackles for loss, 14 interceptions, 31 passes defended, and forced two fumbles. Berry played at Tennessee from 2007 to 2009 and earned two First Team All-American selections during his time on Rocky Top.
Berry turned his Tennessee success into the 5th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, landing with the Kansas City Chiefs. Berry’s storied career only became more inspiring after his battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, changing the lives of kids and adults all over the country.
