Kentucky vs. Georgia Betting Preview
Wildcats’ Impressive Letdown Performance Cause for Concern
“Impressive letdown” performance may sound like an oxymoron, but that’s exactly what the Wildcats’ 33-14 win over Florida was. They sealed the victory, but starting QB Devin Leary had by far his worst game of the season, connecting on nine of his 20 tosses for 69 yards and one touchdown. However, thanks to an explosive performance from running back Re’Mahn Davis, they overcame his abysmal performance.
Davis rushed for 280 yards and three touchdowns against the Gators, just about single handedly carrying Kentucky to victory. A win is a win, but with a road game against arguably the best defense in the nation on the horizon, how Leary will respond is the biggest question. He dominated the lesser opponents on the schedule before conference play, but against SEC teams, his play has made the team quite vulnerable.
From turnovers to low completion percentages, Kentucky has to figure out their Leary problem to have a chance to steal the game.
Bulldogs’ Conservatism Keeping Opponents in Play
Although Georgia is undefeated this season, it has faced a couple of near losses against teams they were expected to obliterate. The Bulldogs are 1-4 against the spread this year. The two times they failed to cover that are the most concerning was against Auburn last weekend, who they were favored to beat by 14 and escaped by just a touchdown due to a fourth quarter defensive collapse by the Tigers.
The second was against South Carolina, who they were favored to beat by 26 points and got away with a 10-point victory. The biggest thing keeping teams in the game is the conservatism of the offense, which has drawn the ire of Georgia fans early into the season.
Between the new position players, QB, and offensive coordinator, the Bulldogs’ offense underwent a major undertaking over the offseason, and adapting seems to be taking some time. If the struggles continue, they could be in trouble against Kentucky, which is lighting it up despite its challenges on that side of the ball as well.
Kentucky Wildcats vs. Georgia Bulldogs Prediction
Georgia’s defense has been their calling card during its dominant run, and it’s more of the same this year. The Wildcats don’t measure up to what they have on that side of the ball, but that doesn’t mean their defense isn’t tough. Considering how Georgia has looked offensively, Kentucky may be able to have even more success, so this contest should be one of the low scoring defensive battles the SEC is known to produce.
If defense is going to be what wins the game, it’s hard not to take Georgia. Bulldogs win 21-17.
