The open date presents plenty of opportunities and good things for a football program. For the 2023 Vols, the early October open date gives them a needed opportunity to get healthy and continue the growth of a number of young players looking to break into the rotation.
Each year’s open date is almost as important for the future of the program than the current team as coaches hit the road recruiting for its big school visit stretch of the regular season. It’s no different for Tennessee football this season as its assistant coaches spread across the country starting Thursday and extending to Saturday.
“End of the week, a bunch of coaches will be all over the country,” Tennessee coach Josh Heupel said Wednesday. “I think we’re hitting close to 12 states here as we get out on Thursday and Friday so that will be the back end of the week for the staff and that’s obviously the life blood of this program. Huge part of the week on the back end of it for our staff.”
Tennessee coaches are on the road looking to add to the Vols’ 2024 recruiting class and continue to plant the seeds for their 2025 and 2026 recruiting class.
