Tennessee wide receiver Squirrel White hauled in a catch-of-the-year candidate for the Vols’ football team during the first quarter of the game against South Carolina on Saturday night in Knoxville.

With Tennessee down 10-7 and 1:37 left on the clock in the first quarter, White sprinted down the right sideline as quarterback Joe Milton III dropped back in the pocket. Milton looked right, loaded up his arm, and launched a moonball down the sideline.

Somehow, someway, with a defender draped on him, White came away with the catch to put Tennessee on the doorstep to the endzone. Vols’ running back Jabari Small would punch in the ball for the score just a play later as Tennessee came away with six points.

It was a jaw-dropping catch that had the South Carolina fans speechless and the Tennessee fans in a frenzy.

White has a total of seven catches for 96 yards at the halfway point of the third quarter (the time of this publication).

The Tennessee sophomore had a total of 17 catches for 172 yards entering the game against South Carolina on Saturday night in Knoxville.

White, with the speed and agility that he possesses, has been a big focal point of Tennessee’s short pass game throughout the season. Tennessee receiver Bru McCoy exited the game with an injury on Saturday and while his status is not known at the time of this publication, an extended departure will make White an even more valuable piece to the Vols’ up-tempo offense.

No. 21 Tennessee currently leads South Carolina 31-17 at the time of this publication (6:03, 3Q).
