Tennessee defensive line coach Rodney Garner and running backs coach Jerry Mack both met with the media in Knoxville on Tuesday morning ahead of the Vols’ game against South Carolina this Saturday night.

No. 21 Tennessee will host South Carolina at 7:30 p.m. ET this Saturday in a revenge game after last season’s loss to the Gamecocks in Columbia.

The players and coaches, though, don’t necessarily see it that way. Each of the players and coaches who spoke on Tuesday talked about not paying attention to the past and only focusing on the here and now. The Tennessee program doesn’t care that they lost last year or won last week – it’s all about the next game and the next play.

During his Tuesday press conference, Mack spoke about running back Dylan Sampson and shed some light on the process of determining the running back’s usage throughout the game and how the flow of the contest can dictate that.

“I think the way he ran the ball [against UTSA] was extremely well,” Mack said about Sampson.

Garner, on the other hand, spoke about his defensive line’s performance through the first third of the season and how they can continue to improve and strain moving forward.

“We’re constantly evaluating ourselves, trying to get better,” Garner said on Tuesday. “Now, I think we’ve done some good things but I really feel like there is so much more room for improvement that we can do as a unit.”

Both of the coaches also spoke about Tennessee’s upcoming opponent with South Carolina during the interview.

  1. The Vols are facing a Team this Saturday that has One Player who is responsible for 85% of that Teams Offensive output. That Player is the QB Spencer Rattler. His Passes and Running skill is the Key to EVERY Thing that the Gamecocks do on Offense. Now, if the Vol Coaches are HALFWAY SMART, They will make EVERY EFFORT to minimize Rattler’s Performance. EVERY Defensive Player on Tennessee’s Defense should Concentrate on ONE THING. And that is to Attack Rattler on EVERY PLAY. Blitz, Badger, Chase ,Catch, and make His Evening Miserable. If this is Done, The Big Orange (BLACK) will walk off Neyland Stadium with a Win. If this is Not the game Plan, Tennessee Will Lose. PURE, And Simple !!!!
