Tennessee will use its fifth different uniform combination in the first five weeks of the season when the Vols break out their Dark Mode combination this weekend.

As announced by Tennessee Football on X, the Vols will be wearing their all-black Dark Mode uniforms this Saturday night when Tennessee hosts South Carolina in the home opener at 7:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network.

This is the third straight year that Tennessee has worn Dark Mode uniforms dating back to the 2021 season. Tennessee originally broke out the Dark Mode uniform for a home game against South Carolina. While Tennessee did wear black jerseys and black pants for that game, supply-chain issues forced Tennessee to go with a modified white helmet that incorporated more black accents.

The Vols completed the all-black Dark Mode look this past season for Tennessee’s home game against Kentucky. It’s hard not to think of that game without remembering the “Spooky Rocky Top” moment from pregame that captivated fans in the stadium and across social media.

As mentioned previously, this is the fifth uniform combination that Tennessee has worn this season:

  • Week 1 – vs Virginia – Orange-and-White
  • Week 2 – vs Austin Peay – Smokey Grey II
  • Week 3 – at Florida – All-White
  • Week 4 – vs UTSA – All-Orange
  • Week 5 – vs South Carolina – Dark Mode

South Carolina has yet to reveal their uniforms for the game coming up on Saturday. The Gamecocks wore white jerseys, garnet pants, and white helmets for the Vols’ Dark Mode game against them in 2021.

Tennessee is currently an 11.5-point favorite over the Gamecocks at the time of this publication according to Fanduel Sportsbook. South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler will enter the game third in SEC passing yards, second in completion percentage, and fifth in touchdown passes. Additionally, South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette leads the SEC in receiving yards with 556 yards.

No. 21 Tennessee will host South Carolina at 7:30 p.m. ET this Saturday night in Neyland Stadium.

  1. Dark Mode. Are You Kidding Me? What a Shame. The University of Tennessee’s Colors ARE ORANGE AND WHITE. Enough of this B.S. Who is responsible for this Awful Decision ?? They should be Tarred and Feathered and Rode around The U.T. Campus on a Rail.

  2. I have been a VOL fan for 60 years. However, I will not be attending any more games. UT changing tradition and wearing black uniforms is stupid. UT is orange and white. Not black, not blue and not gray.
If players wants black uniforms they should go to Vanderbilt.

  3. EVERYONE knows Tennessee’s TRUE colors are Orange and White but what’s wrong with mixing things up on the jerseys. It doesn’t change the ‘official’ colors. Teams do it all the times. I have NY Yankees caps in Black camo, pink jungle print, maroon, and navy. I think it’s fun 🙂 But to each their own.. Go Vols!!! <3
