Former Tennessee quarterback recorded his first win as an NFL starting quarterback Sunday as the Arizona Cardinals upset the Dallas Cowboys 28-16.

The Cardinals were 11-point underdogs against the 2-0 Cowboys but jumped out to a first half lead and unlike the first two weeks of the season they withheld a second half comeback to earn the victory.

“It’s really cool,” Dobbs told Fox postgame. “Obviously my first start was against the Dallas Cowboys so a little full circle moment. It’s been a long time to get to right here but I’m just proud of the team, the way we fight, the way we finished in the fourth quarter, man. It was a great game but we have a lot more room to grow and improve. We have some more tougher opponents coming up on our slate so we’ll enjoy this one and get right back to work.”

Dobbs performed well in each of the first two weeks of the season but turned in his best game of the season against Dallas. The seventh-year quarterback completed 17-of-21 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown.

Dobbs also tallied 55 rushing yards on six carries including this 44 yard run which set up the Cardinals first touchdown of the game.

The former fourth round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft spent the first five years of his career bouncing around the NFL as a backup or scout team quarterback before finally getting his first big opportunity to end last season.

The Tennessee Titans signed Dobbs and started him in the final two games of the 2022 season. Tennessee lost both games but Dobbs performed respectably in each game which put him on Arizona’s radar. After it became clear that Kyler Murray would miss a good chunk of the season, Arizona traded for Dobbs and the former Volunteer star beat out rookie Clayton Tune to start in Murray’s place.

It’s not entirely clear how long Murray will be sidelined but Dobbs strong play has him poised to keep starting in the former Heisman trophy winner’s absence.

The challenge only gets harder for the Cardinals next week when they travel to San Fransisco to face the 49ers.
