Tennessee returned to its weekly media schedule on Monday afternoon with head coach Josh Heupel taking center stage.
The Vols were defeated by Florida on Saturday night in Gainesville and dropped 12 spots in the AP Top 25 poll from No. 11 to No. 23 in the rankings.
The rankings, though, aren’t on Heupel’s mind – improvement is. The third-year Tennessee head coach came out of the gates and acknowledged the disappointment in the building but also addressed the growth that he believes can be on the horizon.
“Lot of lessons for us to learn that we better learn quick,” Heupel said to open up on Monday. “At the same time, those lessons have to carry forward, but we have to wash this one too.”
Heupel broke down several questions regarding the Florida game before also touching on Tennessee’s next opponent in UTSA.
“We have a really good opponent coming into Neyland this Saturday,” Heupel said. “It’s a football team that’s won a bunch of games over the last couple of years. They’re experienced, they have playmakers and they’re big, strong and physical on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball too. It will be a really good test.”
