Tennessee football played far from its best in its 30-13 victory over Austin Peay Saturday evening at Neyland Stadium but the Vols did escape with a win which is more than what many SEC teams can say through two weeks.
The SEC is off to its worst start to a season in some time with nearly the whole league looking unimpressive through two weeks. The conference has just three total wins over power five opponents two weeks into the season: Tennessee over Virginia, Mississippi State over Arizona and Auburn over California.
None of those opponents are expected to be good this season.
Two weeks into the season and six of the 14 SEC teams have already lost a game and four of the eight teams that are unbeaten haven’t faced a worthy foe yet.
Even the unbeaten teams have frequently looked unimpressive. Kentucky and Tennessee each struggled with FCS opponents Saturday, Auburn and Mississippi State won games in the final minutes against lackluster power five teams. Missouri struggled with Middle Tennessee State and Arkansas struggled with Kent State. Two time defending national champion Georgia’s offense has sputtered to start the season.
Really only Ole Miss has looked consistently good through two weeks. They earned a ranked win at Tulane Saturday though the game was close and the Green Wave’s starting quarterback didn’t play.
RTI’s own Jack Foster had a good write up about how the SEC’s struggles affect Tennessee. Read that here before taking a look at all SEC results two weeks through the season.

Praying that they get a win in Florida. It is so important to get a win at “The Swamp”.
