SEC Football Odds for Week 1

The Florida Gators took the field on Thursday night against the No. 14 Utah Utes and suffered a 24-11 defeat. It appears to be a long season ahead for the Gators offensively. However, their defense may be solid enough to scare a few SEC foes as the season progresses. The rest of the conference is set for action today and tomorrow, and one of the two best games to keep a look out for is South Carolina vs. No. 21-ranked North Carolina.

South Carolina vs. North Carolina at 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)

Many SEC schools start the season against lesser opponents, but the Gamecocks are starting against one of their biggest rivals in North Carolina, which is coming into the matchup ranked No. 21. A big reason for the Tar Heels’ early ranking is the return of their electric QB Drake Maye, who finished last season with 4,321 yards, 38 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. However, he only faced one team of the Gamecocks’ caliber last season.

That team was the Clemson Tigers, who beat UNC 39-10 and held Maye to no touchdowns and forced two interceptions in the shellacking. South Carolina allowed a few high scoring performances last year, but it put together a stellar recruiting class that includes a plethora of young defenders who can help seal the holes in their defense on day one. The incoming talent includes six four-star defenders joining every level of the defense.

On the other side of the ball, South Carolina was up and down in 2022, but was capable of explosions. Some of their biggest performances include a 63-point outburst against Tennessee, and 31- and 38- point performances against Clemson and Notre Dame, respectively. The Gamecocks are getting the bulk of their offensive production back for this year thanks to Spencer Rattler and Juice Wells sticking around. They also added five-star recruit Nyck Harbor to their offense, who is sure to make his presence felt.

UNC is favored in this matchup, but thanks to the returning and incoming talent in South Carolina, UNC on the Moneyline may not hold up in this one.

More SEC Week 1 Odds

Below are additional games that may produce some noise Saturday and Sunday.

No. 5 LSU vs. No, 8 Florida State (Sunday, 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC)

This heavyweight bout is without a doubt the best game on the schedule in Week 1. Last year’s contest between the two was determined by a single point as Florida State pulled out a 24-23 victory in Louisiana. This year, LSU is ranked higher heading into the matchup but will have to take the show on the road in what is expected to be a ruckus Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla.  Both QBs are must-see TV and are sure to put their fingerprints on the outcome. This one is worth both wager action and watching live.

No. 12 Tennessee vs. Virginia (Saturday, Noon ET on ABC)

Tennessee has had one of the most electric offenses in the nation over the last two years. However, this is the first year they’ll have to replace their biggest offensive performers. Head coach Josh Heupel has proven to be one of the best offensive minds on the college level, but he’ll have to prove it with his new weapons, including QB Joe Milton III.

No. 4 Alabama vs. Middle Tennessee (Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network)

These programs have played each other three times, and each of them were closer than the point spread for today’s game. Although a small school, MTSU gives Alabama its best shot in each matchup, which could pay off on one of the lines above for today’s game.
