How VFLs Performed in Week 2 of NFL Preseason

Week two of the three-week NFL preseason has officially concluded. Of the 32 former Vols that are currently on an NFL roster, 21 saw the field over the past week.

Stat lines for all VFLs in the second week of the NFL preseason are below.

S Micah Abernathy – Atlanta Falcons

Recorded one tackle and one pass deflection in Atlanta’s 13-13 tie with the Bengals.

DE Derek Barnett – Philadelphia Eagles

Logged one solo tackle in Philadelphia’s 18-18 tie with the Browns.

DT Matthew Butler – Las Vegas Raiders

Recorded two total tackles, one solo, in Vegas’ win against the Rams.

DE LaTrell Bumphus – Seattle Seahawks

Did not see any action in Seattle’s win over the Cowboys.

WR Marquez Callaway – Denver Broncos

Did not catch his lone target in Denver’s loss to the 49ers.

OG Jerome Carvin – Kansas City Chiefs

Saw action at guard in Kansas City’s win as he continues to compete for a roster spot.

LS Morgan Cox – Tennessee Titans

Snapped for one field goal attempt (successful), three extra point attempts (all successful) and four punts.

QB Joshua Dobbs – Cleveland Browns

Did not play in Cleveland’s tie with the Eagles as Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Kellen Mond continue to compete for the third QB spot.

TE Princeton Fant – Dallas Cowboys

Caught one pass for two yards in Dallas’ loss to Seattle. His first catch in the preseason. Also logged one tackle on special teams.

QB Hendon Hooker – Detroit Lions

Did not play in Detroit’s 25-7 loss to the Jaguars as he continues to rehab his knee.

WR Jalin Hyatt – New York Giants

Caught four passes for 35 yards and scored his first ever NFL touchdown. Hyatt got well past the secondary and caught an easy 33-yard score. Hyatt’s touchdown helped the Giants defeat the Panthers 21-19 to improve to 1-1 on the preseason.

S Theo Jackson – Minnesota Vikings

Racked up four tackles, two solo, in the Vikings’ 24-16 loss to Tennessee.

WR Jauan Jennings – San Francisco 49ers

Caught his only target for an 11-yard gain in San Francisco’s win over Denver. Jennings only played early in the game as the starting number three wide receiver.

FB Jakob Johnson – Las Vegas Raiders

Johnson was inactive in the Raiders’ win against the Rams.

WR/PR Velus Jones Jr. – Chicago Bears

Did not play in Chicago’s 24-17 loss to the Colts as he deals with an undisclosed injury.

RB Alvin Kamara – New Orleans Saints

Did not play in the Saints’ game against the Chargers.

RB John Kelly Jr. – Cleveland Browns

Recorded eight carries for 20 yards and caught one pass for three yards. Also lost a fumble.

OG Cade Mays – Carolina Panthers

Was inactive in Carolina’s 21-19 loss to the Giants with a neck injury. Head coach Frank Reich said Mays’ injury is not considered to be long-term.

CB Emmanuel Moseley – Detroit Lions

Was inactive in Detroit’s loss to the Jags as he continues to rehab a torn ACL from last season.

WR Joshua Palmer – Los Angeles Chargers

Did not play against the Saints as he continues to work his way back to 100 percent healthy after getting injured in practice.

RB Cordarrelle Patterson – Atlanta Falcons

Did not play in the Falcons’ tie against the Bengals due to a lingering soft-tissue injury. Nothing serious.

ILB Jalen Reeves-Maybin – Detroit Lions

Racked up five total tackles (two solo) in Detroit’s loss to Jacksonville.

OG Trey Smith – Kansas City Chiefs

Started at right guard in the Chiefs’ blowout win against Arizona.

CB Cameron Sutton – Detroit Lions

Did not play in Detroit’s loss to the Jaguars but is not injured.

CB Alontae Taylor – New Orleans Saints

Played but did not record a statistic in the Saints’ win over the Chargers. Fall camp reports indicate Taylor may be in line for the CB2 role on New Orleans’ defense.

OLB Darrell Taylor – Seattle Seahawks

Was inactive in Seattle’s win over Dallas. Head coach Pete Carroll said they expect Taylor to be back next week.

WR Cedric Tillman – Cleveland Browns

Caught two passes for 50 yards. Both catches came on the opening drive of the game, with his long being a 36-yard gain to get the Browns in the red zone.

CB Bryce Thompson – Miami Dolphins

Led the team with four tackles in Miami’s 28-3 drubbing of Houston. All of his tackles were solo.

DT Shy Tuttle – Carolina Panthers

Saw action in the Panthers’ loss to the Giants but did not record a statistic.

DT Kendal Vickers – Buffalo Bills

Recorded three tackles and one TFL in Buffalo’s loss to the Steelers.

OT Darnell Wright – Chicago Bears

Surprisingly rested in Chicago’s loss to Indianapolis. Had a very good first game in the preseason.

OLB Byron Young – Los Angeles Rams

Rested and did not play in L.A.’s loss to Las Vegas.
