One of the top players in the 2024 recruiting class, doubling as one of Tennessee’s top targets in the class, is less than a week away from announcing his decision.

According to a report from Hayes Fawcett on Tuesday, four/five-star EDGE rusher Jordan Ross is set to announce his collegiate commitment on Monday, August 21.

The Birmingham, AL native is a highly-ranked 6-foot-4, 230-pound EDGE rusher. Ross ranks as a four-star prospect according to Rivals, On3, and ESPN, while 247 Sports has Ross as a five-star recruit. All in all, each of the four publications has Ross as a Top 100 player with ESPN and 247 putting him in the Top 25.

According to 247’s industry composite rankings, Ross lands as a four-star recruit, the No. 36 player in the country, the No. 4 EDGE rusher in the country, and the No. 5 player from the state of Alabama.

Ross is set to choose between four strong finalists: Florida, Tennessee, Texas, and Alabama.

Three of the four schools received an official visit in the month of June according to 247 with Florida going first (June 2), then Texas (June 16), then Tennessee (June 23). Ross also added an official visit to Georgia on June 9 but did not include the Bulldogs in his final four.

Fortunately for the Tennessee coaching staff, Ross attended the Tennessee-Alabama game last October and had the chance to see Neyland Stadium at its peak form.

According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, Tennessee leads the way for Ross’s commitment at 29 percent. Florida lands behind at 12.6 percent, followed by Alabama and Texas at 7.9 percent. While not in the running anymore, Georgia did hold an 18.3 percent standing for Ross’s commitment.

No analysts or experts from 247 Sports have submitted a Crystal Ball prediction for Ross despite his announcement being less than a week away.

With the size that he has, Ross is an excellent prospect for Tennessee at the EDGE position. The Vols have found recent success in using/acquiring high-level EDGE rushers including Byron Young (Los Angeles Rams), sophomore Josh Josephs, sophomore James Pearce Jr., and senior Roman Harrison.

“Displays an explosive first step off the line of scrimmage and flashes outstanding initial foot and body quickness at the point of attack,” 247 Sports National Recruiting Analyst Cooper Petagna wrote in a February evaluation. “Fluid athlete. Shows the ability to bend the edge and possesses good burst-to-close ability. Demonstrates good lateral change of direction ability and exhibits the ability to play in space both on the line of scrimmage and lined up as an off-ball linebacker.”

Tennessee’s 2024 recruiting class currently stands at No. 11 according to 247’s team rankings. The Vols possess 19 total commits with one five-star, 13 four-stars, and five three-star players. Tennessee has the sixth-ranked class in the SEC behind No. 1 Georgia, No. 3 Florida, No. 4 Alabama, No. 7 LSU, and No. 10 Texas A&M.
