FedEx St Jude Championship Preview & Best Bets
TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tenn., is hosting the first leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs with the St. Jude Championship having teed off on Thursday, Aug. 10. The top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings are on hand, with Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Jon Rahm headlining the field.
Before the tournament began, Scheffler was listed as the +650 betting favorite on BetMGM Sportsbook. Here are some other golfers to keep an eye out for this tournament.
Rickie Fowler
We saw Rickie Fowler’s resurgence this season reach its peak when he broke through for his win back at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. It wasn’t a huge event or one with a top-tier field, but the win gives Rickie and his backers the boost he needs going forward.
Fowler has two top-15 finishes in four tries at this course while gaining strokes putting all four times. He hasn’t had a post-win letdown either, with some solid play continuing during the links stretch of the Scottish Open and Open Championship.
Jason Day
Jason Day broke through for a win earlier in the season, and it was emotional enough for him that it led to some pretty poor golf in the weeks that followed. Day had a stretch of three straight missed cuts following that victory and didn’t see the weekend again until the Travelers. It seems to have all come back to him, though, as he started to show some of that pre-win form with his runner-up finish at The Open Championship.
Max Homa
It’s been since the Farmers Insurance Open back in January that Max Homa came through with a win, but he just has a knack for closing out wins when he has form. Homa’s ability to close isn’t the only reason to give him a look, it’s also because of a couple of really good weeks of links golf. He found himself in the mix over the weekend at The Open and finally produced his first top 10 at a major. This was a big step for him going forward that could propel him to some added success in these closing weeks at the playoffs.
