Report: Former Tennessee Linebacker Dismissed From New Team

Arizona State dismissed former Tennessee linebacker Juwan Mitchell from its football program over the weekend, DevilsDigest.com reported Monday.

According to the report, Mitchell was involved in an incident during the Sun Devils’ Friday practice which led to his dismissal on Saturday. This story will be updated if any further details come out about Mitchell’s dismissal.

The inside linebacker spent two seasons at Tennessee before entering the transfer portal early in the offseason and landing at Arizona State after a long stint in the portal.

Mitchell came to Tennessee from Texas with high expectations ahead of the 2021 season. The New Jersey native totaled eight tackles in four games during his junior season before missing the final two months of the season with an injury.

The reliable tackler returned to Tennessee for his senior season in 2022 where he played meaningful snaps as a backup inside linebacker behind Jeremy Banks and Aaron Beasley. Mitchell totaled 43 total tackles and one interception during his senior season.

It’s unclear what Mitchell will do for his final season of collegiate eligibility after Arizona State kicked him off its football team.

Arizona State is entering Kenny Dillingham’s first season as head coach. Dillingham is a Phoenix native who graduated from ASU. The 33-year old is in his first head coaching job and came to Arizona State from from his perch as Oregon’s offensive coordinator.

The Sun Devils went 28-27 in Herm Edwards’ five seasons as head coach before Dillingham took over.
