Former Tennessee Vol and current New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is being suspended for three games by the NFL, as reported by NFL insider Adam Schefter on Friday afternoon.

The suspension stems from Kamara’s role in a fight outside of a Las Vegas nightclub in 2022.

Kamara, along with Indianapolis Colts cornerback Chris Lammons, originally faced “felony charges of battery with substantial bodily harm and misdemeanor charges of conspiracy to commit battery” according to ESPN.

Kamara, however, reached a plea agreement in July that reduced his charge to misdemeanor breach of peace.

The former Tennessee running back met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell recently to discuss the incident that occured on Pro Bowl weekend in 2022. NOLA.com’s Jeff Duncan reported on Wednesday that the meeting between Kamara and Goodell went “very well.”

Considering the charges that Kamara initially faced and the amount of attention this story has gathered since it broke, Kamara’s suspension is rather reasonable for the New Orleans Saints’ side of things.

Kamara’s three-game suspension at the beginning of the season will cover the Saints’ home game against the Tennessee Titans (9/10), at Carolina (9/18), and at Green Bay (9/24).

Alvin Kamara spent a long time speaking about the situation and apologizing for his actions after the Saints’ practice on Friday.

“It’s a tough ordeal to be in,” Kamara said after Saints practice Friday via ESPN. “You know, I never want to be involved in something where someone gets hurt or severely injured or anything. Poor judgment on my end, definitely a bad decision, but I’m a man. Everything I’ve ever done in my life, I’ve stood on. And I can take accountability for it and I can say when I’m wrong and I was completely wrong.”

Kamara is entering his seventh year in the league after being selected by the Saints in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. The former Tennessee running back started 13 of his 15 games for New Orleans last season and ended the year with 897 rushing yards and 490 receiving yards. Kamara’s two rushing touchdowns on the season was the lowest amount of his six-year career. Kamara also added in two touchdowns through the air during the 2022-2023 season.
