Tennessee Director of Athletics Danny White and the rest of the Vols’ athletic department have implemented a number of upgrades to the game day environment inside Neyland Stadium over the last two years.

They’ve added more fireworks, half time light shows and more. But nothing stands out as much as Tennessee turning off the stadium lights and projecting the Pride of the Southland Band’s human T when the Vols run out of the north end zone for night games.

It’s been a popular clip to share on social media over the last two seasons and an ESPN and SEC Network personality offered plenty of praise for it this week.

“What they have done recently to upgrade the in-game experience,” Cole Cubelic said. “When the lights go out, the orange LEDs around the top, they orange the T with a spotlight on it. That is about as cool as I’ve ever seen anywhere in college football. That entrance … that is legit.”

Tennessee first introduced the lit up power T during the Ole Miss game in 2021. The Vols did it again for the Kentucky game in 2022 and those are the only two games Tennessee has done it for. It’s also the only two games Tennessee has played at Neyland Stadium over the last two years that started after the sun set.

The Vols are poised to continue their altered entrance tradition for a third season. The game time for Tennessee’s final six home games are still to be determined.

Cubelic played center at Auburn in the late 90s and serves as a sideline reporter for the SEC Network during football season. Cubelic also hosts a daily radio show in Birmingham with former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy.
