Tennessee associate head coach Justin Gainey spoke with the media before practice on Tuesday afternoon prior to the Vols’ 10-day international trip at the end of the month.
During the 10+ minute interview, Gainey hit a wide range of topics including the team’s off-season improvements, the surprising departure of Chris Ledlum, the addition of certain newcomers such as Dalton Knecht, the elevated play of Tobe Awaka and Freddie Dilione, and what he’s looking forward to about Tennessee’s trip to Italy later in July.
In addition to those topics, though, Gainey was also asked about the transfer addition of his son, Jordan Gainey, a rising junior who spent the last two seasons with USC Upstate. Gainey spoke about the process of being both a dad and a coach during the recruiting process and credited head coach Rick Barnes and the coaching staff with the ability to bring in Jordan Gainey as a quality player.
