Kickoff for Tennessee football’s home opener against Austin Peay is set for 5 p.m. ET. The game won’t be on cable but can be streamed on SEC Network+ and ESPN+.
The Sept. 9 matchup is Tennessee’s home opener and marks its lone matchup against an FCS team during the 2023 season.
The kick-off time and broadcast details for the first three games of nearly every SEC team was announced in the late spring but Tennessee’s matchup with Austin Peay was one of the few games that was left up in the air until this week.
More From RTI: Hendon Hooker Shares Bold Prediction For Tennessee Football Season
Austin Peay went 7-4 a season ago, losing to FBS teams Western Kentucky and Alabama while going 3-2 in ASUN play. Govs’ coach Scotty Walden is entering his third season as head coach just like Josh Heupel.
Tennessee enters the 2023 season coming off an 11-2 (6-2 SEC) season— the Vols best in over two decades. Heupel’s second Tennessee team put the Vols back on the map with wins over Florida, LSU, Alabama and Clemson in the Orange Bowl.
The Vols lose a number of important pieces particularly on offense where quarterback Hendon Hooker, receivers Cedric Tillman and Jalin Hyatt and offensive tackle Darnell Wright are off to the NFL.
Heupel and veterans Joe Milton III, Jacob Warren and Omari Thomas will represent Tennessee at SEC Media Days this Thursday in Nashville. Rocky Top Insider will be on site to provide complete Tennessee SEC Media Days coverage.
