Five-Star Receiver Announces Imminent Commitment Date

Five-star receiver Mike Matthews will announce his college commitment on Wednesday, July 19, On3 first reported Monday afternoon. Matthews is announcing his decision at 7 p.m. ET.

The blue chip receiver is down to a top group that includes Clemson, Georgia, Southern Cal and Tennessee.

Matthews ranks as a five-star recruit and the No. 13 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The Parkview High School standout ranks as the fourth best receiver in the country and the third best player in the state of Georgia.

Matthews announced his commitment date after taking official visits to all four of his finalists in June.

The 6-foot-1, 180 pound receiver has taken six total visits to Clemson, five visits to Georgia, four visits to Tennessee and two visits to USC during his recruiting process. Matthews has also taken three visits to Alabama though none were official visits.

247sports’ Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong placed a crystal ball prediction for Tennessee to land Matthews over the weekend.

Tennessee’s 2024 recruiting class currently contains 16 commits including from one receiver— four-star Braylon Staley. The Vols’ 2024 recruiting class currently ranks No. 15 nationally according to the 247sports team rankings.
