Tennessee fans won’t get to watch a season of Wofford transfer Ryan Galanie in Knoxville. Galanie plans to sign professionally with the Chicago White Sox and forgo his final season of college eligibility, he told RTI Wednesday morning.
The White Sox selected Galanie with the 389th pick (13th round) of the 2023 MLB Draft Monday afternoon after a stellar four-year career at Wofford.
The reigning SoCon Player of the Year hit .383 with 17 home runs, 15 doubles and 66 RBIs last season for the Terriers and was one of the prized pieces of Tennessee’s strong transfer class.
Galanie opting to play professionally is no shock with the utility man’s goal always being to begin his professional career if the spot was right for him.

“If I feel like I’m being taken advantage of at all— in the position I’m in now I’m a right-handed corner infielder that can hit a little bit. I’m a mid major guy that’s old,” Galanie told RTI after he committed. “There’s not a whole lot of leverage and there’s definitely area for me to get taken advantage of a little bit by organizations so if I feel like I’m being taken advantage of I don’t plan on signing because all I want is fair value and I’ve been told I have the possibility to be a money saver guy on the second day. That’s kind of what I’m expecting but if I feel like it’s gone from money saver to taking advantage of me I don’t want to be a part of that.”
This is the second straight season Tennessee baseball has lost a transfer commit to the MLB Draft with UConn transfer Reggie Crawford opting to forego his college eligibility to start his professional career with the San Fransisco Giants last offseason.
