Tennessee football recruiting target Amari Jefferson is one step closer to his collegiate decision.
According to a report from On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Tuesday morning, Jefferson has trimmed his list of schools down to three: Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama – three heavyweight teams from the Southeastern Conference.
Jefferson also added to the report that his commitment will come on Saturday, Aug. 5, just days after the Volunteers are expected to open up fall camp en route to the season.

Jefferson, from Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN, is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound wide receiver in the class of 2024.
The talented in-state prospect is a four-star recruit according to On3, ESPN, and Rivals while 247Sports has Jefferson as a three-star recruit. On3’s collective industry rankings have Jefferson as a four-star recruit, the No. 209 player in the nation, the No. 36 wide receiver in the class of 2024, and the No. 3 player from the state of Tennessee.

Don’t let the three-star ranking fool you. Instead, just take a look at the final three teams in Jefferson’s race to see just how much of a desired recruit the in-state prospect is. Jefferson is a skilled wide receiver that projects well in the Tennessee offense with his speed and versatility. The Chattanooga product has sharp hands, quick feet, and great hand-eye coordination when catching the ball.
With the success of Jalin Hyatt and Cedric Tillman in the first two years of the Josh Heupel era, Tennessee has the blueprint for what receivers can accomplish on Rocky Top. The Vols received a big commitment with four-star WR Braylon Staley earlier in the month and are looking to close down recruitments of Mike Matthews and Jefferson in the near future. If, and that’s a big if, Tennessee can land Matthews and Jefferson to match up with Staley, the Vols and Josh Heupel will be looking at one of the most dynamic receiving rooms in the country.
Amari Jefferson will announce his collegiate decision in less than a month with a powerhouse trio of Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee all fighting for their name to be called. Jefferson recently wrapped up visits to all three programs this summer as the college football recruiting world waits for the announcement.
Tennessee boasts 16 commits in its 2024 class, which currently ranks No. 11 in the nation according to 247 Sports. The Vols’ class is headlined by four-star quarterback Jake Merklinger, four-star athlete Jonathan Echols, four-star cornerback Kaleb Beasley, and four-star wide receiver Braylon Staley.
