Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Odds and Preview

Chestnut and Sudo are the overwhelming favorites. Currently, Chestnut is a -3000 favorite to win again. The next closest in odds is Geoffrey Esper at +1400. Esper placed second to Chestnut the last two years, making him a viable threat if Chestnut has any setbacks during the competition. Last year, Esper scarfed down 48 hot dogs compared to 63 for Chestnut.

Considering how much of a favorite Chestnut is, there is more value in other wager options on Caesars. That includes how many hot dogs Chestnut, Sudo, and others will eat. We outlined a couple below for your consideration.

Joey Chestnut to Eat Over 76.5 Hotdogs (+270)

In a recent interview with the Washington Post, Chestnut revealed he reached 82 hotdogs in a training session and that he thinks it’s humanly possible to go even higher. In 2021, he set the record for hotdogs eaten in the contest with 76. He followed that with a letdown year in 2022, finishing with 63. However, there was a lot at play that year for the reigning champ.

He ruptured his Achilles and had to compete hobbled, which kept him from his usual cardio. Although the contest is all about eating, it is actually pretty physically demanding. He also lost his mother last June, which impacted him mentally. Now that he has had time to recover and heal from both occurrences, he has been able to bounce back in his training better than ever and is averaging in the high 70s to early 80s in his training. We like the champ to set a record in this one.

Miko Sudo to Eat Over 43.5 Hot Dogs (-115)

Caesars doesn’t have outright winner odds for the women’s side of the competition, but Sudo is a -4000 favorite on other online sportsbooks. She won the contest last year with 42 hot dogs eaten, and the next person up finished with 26. That was after a one-year break due to being pregnant in 2021. She also has the added benefit of competing this year, winning the 2023 Sweet Corn Eating Contest with 52 ears of corn eaten in 12 minutes.

Now that she has multiple competitions under her belt since giving birth, her training should be impactful enough to help her cover 43.5 hot dogs.
