Baseball America pegged Tennessee pitcher Andrew Lindsey a Third Team All-American Wednesday for his strong debut season in Knoxville.

Lindsey was Tennessee’s most consistent pitcher in 2023 and one of the nation’s top pitchers, posting a 3-4 record, 2.90 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 71.1 innings pitched.

A Charlotte transfer who didn’t play baseball during the 2022 season, Lindsey started his junior season in the bullpen before Tony Vitello moved him into the starting rotation at the midway point in SEC play.

Lindsey replaced Chase Burns in Tennessee’s weekend rotation but as the Vols’ Friday night starter as Vitello slid Chase Dollander to the game two starting spot.

The decision proved to be one of Vitello’s best in his six effective seasons as the Vols’ skipper. The New Johnsonville, Tennessee native posted a 3.12 ERA in six SEC starts with the Vols winning five of the six series openers.

Lindsey continued a fantastic season in the Clemson Regional opener against his old team— Charlotte. The right-handed pitcher wasn’t at his best in his final two starts of the season against Southern Miss and LSU.

While Lindsey still has one season of eligibility remaining his days pitching in Knoxville are almost certainly done. Lindsey is MLB Draft eligible and while he won’t be a first round draft pick a franchise will likely pick him early in day two (rounds two through 10) of the draft.

Lindsey could always turn down the MLB and return to Knoxville for a final season but college players selected on day two rarely choose that path.
