Tennessee baseball lost star pitcher Chase Burns to the transfer portal on Tuesday.
The loss is a big hit to Tennessee’s pitching staff for the 2024 season, as the upcoming junior figured to serve as either the Friday or Saturday night starter for the Vols.
After moving to a bullpen role due to early-season struggles in 2023, Burns became arguably the best reliever in college baseball. The Gallatin, Tennessee, native was one of the biggest reasons Tennessee made it to the College World Series, where Burns turned in a historic relief performance in the Vols’ first Omaha win since 2001.
Losing Burns is big. But is it devastating? How much will it impact Tennessee?
With Frank Anderson’s coaching and Tony Vitello and Josh Elander’s ability to recruit high-level players out of the transfer portal, Tennessee should be just fine.
Take a deeper look at the impact of Burns’ departure in the latest High & Tight presented by Gambuzza’s Barbershop.
