MLB Friday Betting Odds and Preview
Several of this weekend’s matchups pit contending teams against one another. Let’s take a look at some of those matchups that begin on Friday, June 23.
Atlanta Braves (-150) at Cincinnati Reds (+125), 6:40 p.m. ET
It’s tough to bet against Cincinnati right now, but as great as this story has been for the young team with 11 consecutive victories, it may be in for a reality check tonight at Great American Ballpark. While the Reds (40-35) have been a nice surprise, the Braves (48-26) are right where the baseball world expected them to be — in first place with a dominant record.
And, oh, by the way, Atlanta has won eight in a row itself.
Braves starter A.J. Smith-Shawver (2.03 ERA) has been effective in three appearances whereas Reds starter Luke Weaver (6.47 ERA) has not. Based on the pitching disadvantage for the Reds, the low Atlanta moneyline price seems tempting, but is it too good to be true?
It’s worth noting that the total in this game is 11 runs — higher than any game on the night outside of the Colorado Rockies’ home game.
Texas Rangers (-115) at New York Yankees (-105), 7:05 p.m. ET
These teams seem to be in opposite places from what was expected of them when the season began. The Rangers (46-28) are flying high and 5.5 games clear of the runner-up Houston Astros in the AL West. The Yankees (41-34), meanwhile, are languishing in third place in the AL East and a distant 9.5 games behind first-place Tampa Bay.
New York is still in a playoff position and hopes are still high for this season, especially if it can stay in the hunt before Aaron Judge (toe) returns.
The Yankees will send Clarke Schmidt to the mound (4.65 ERA). He has gone five consecutive starts without a win thanks in large part to the Yankees not scoring more than two runs in any of those games.
Texas starter Dane Dunning (2.78 ERA) has been solid all season. Dunning pitched five no-hit innings in the Bronx in May and finished that outing with six innings pitched, one run, and two hits.
Arizona Diamondbacks (+145) at San Francisco Giants (-175), 10:15 p.m. ET
Arizona (46-30) leads the NL West, but its 3.5-game lead could come crashing down if it doesn’t cool off the surging Giants (42-33) this weekend in San Francisco.
The Giants had won nine in a row before losing to San Diego on Thursday, but the good news is they have a strong advantage Friday night when it comes to starting pitchers. San Francisco will lean on Logan Webb (3.11 ERA) while the Diamondbacks will hope Zac Davies (7.11 ERA) can bounce back after allowing 15 runs in 6.2 innings over his last two starts.
