Former Tennessee football commit JJ Harrell committed to Mississippi State Tuesday just over two weeks after de-committing from Tennessee.
Harrell spent over three months as a Volunteer pledge, committing to Tennessee in late February before backing off his pledge on June 5.
The Sardis, Mississippi native seemed poise to stay in state, visiting both Ole Miss and Mississippi State while he was committed to Tennessee before taking unofficial visits to each school this month after his de-commitment. Harrell visited Starkville just a few days before committing to Mississippi State.

Harrell ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 155 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The 6-foot receiver ranks as the 22nd best pass catcher in the country and the No. 4 player in the state of Mississippi.
The instate receiver became Mississippi State’s highest rated recruit in the 2024 cycle upon his commitment.
Tennessee football’s 2024 recruiting class currently contains 13 commits but none are from receivers. However, the Vols are in the top group for a handful of blue chip receivers including five-star Mike Matthews, five-star Ryan Wingo and four-star Braylon Staley.
The Vols’ 13 commit recruiting class ranks No. 11 nationally according to the 247sports team rankings.
