Head coach Tony Vitello and the Tennessee Volunteers will head down to Hattiesburg, Mississippi this weekend for a best-of-three series against Southern Miss with a trip to the College World Series on the line.
Tennessee advanced to this spot in the tournament thanks to a 3-0 weekend in the Clemson Regional. On the other hand, Southern Miss went 4-1 to take the Auburn Regional in Alabama.
Prior to the Tennessee team’s travels down to Hattiesburg, outfielder Griffin Merritt and head coach Tony Vitello spoke to the media in Knoxville. While Merritt wasn’t on Tennessee’s team last year to compare the postseason experiences, the power hitter said on Thursday that he believes the adversity Tennessee has fought through throughout the season has prepared them for this weekend.
Vitello, meanwhile, spoke about his thoughts on Tennessee’s opponent as well as his own guys getting ready for the weekend.
The first game between Tennessee and Southern Miss in the Hattiesburg Super Regional will take place on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. ET.
