Tennessee baseball won the Clemson Regional over the weekend to advance to the super regionals for the third straight season.
The Vols’ bookended the weekend with victories over Charlotte. Tennessee defeated the 49ers 8-1 in the regional opener before taking the regional final 9-2 Sunday night.
There’s plenty of familiarity between Tennessee and Charlotte’s program. The two teams have played midweek matchups including in 2021 when the Vols traveled to Charlotte to take on Robert Woodard’s team.
Former Tennessee infielder Austin Knight transferred to Charlotte and former 49ers pitcher Andrew Lindsey transferred to Tennessee. Charlotte star Cam Fisher is a Knoxville native and his father knows Tony Vitello well.
After Tennessee ended Charlotte’s season Saturday, Woodard and Fisher had plenty of good things to say about the Vols. Here’s everything the duo said about Tennessee.

On Tennessee
“Couldn’t have any more respect for the Tennessee program that just played a really great game tonight. It’s going to sound like a broken record from our first game against them, but the margin for error against that program is razor thin. They don’t miss mistakes and they make all the plays and then some. They are just a really talented, well-rounded, well-coached ball club. They are going to be a very tough team to beat in a three-game super regional based off the way they played against us.”
On Christian Moore
“It was like he was playing a video game and he had the cheat code turned on. He was on another level. I could even see him shaking his own head when he was coming toward third like he couldn’t believe it. He is a heck of a player. We tried to make our best pitches. I even went out there before his at-bat. Our guys made their best pitches and he put great swings on them. That is what great players do.”
Cam Fisher
On Drew Beam
“He’s got great stuff, man. He’s a proven winner playing with a bunch of other proven winners at Tennessee. He is coming at you with everything. He’s not afraid to come after you. He is going to pound the zone and he did that. He pounded the zone with all three pitches, all four pitches really. He kept us off balance. He had all four pitches working today. Sometimes, you just get out-pitched and he had his A-game today.”

I am 68 and have lived in Tennessee my whole life. I’ve seen the good, bad and ugly at UT in sports. I’ve had my heart broken many, many times and you get to where you even expect it. It seems like the baseball prpgram has settled into that last category I hate to say. Yes, their bats have gone quiet yet again. Both the basketball and baseball programs have settled into that category and so far show no signs of fighting their way out. I’m hoping with all my heart the baseball team can make me eat every word I’ve said here! Nothing would make me happier! GO VOLS! Do it for yourself, the fans, the program and the SEC! I wanna watch the CWS and actually care who wins. I ain’t getting any younger!
