On3 national recruiting insider Josh Newberg placed a prediction for Tennessee football to land five-star Georgia receiver Mike Matthews with a confidence level of 65 Tuesday night.

The prediction comes during On3’s NIL Elite Series and before Matthews begins a month stretch with four official visits. The five-star receiver expects to make his college decision after taking visits to Clemson, Georgia, USC and Tennessee in June.

Matthews is one of the top recruits in the country, ranking as the nation’s No. 9 player and No. 3 receiver in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The Lilburn native also ranks as the No. 2 player in the state of Georgia.

The blue chip receiver has frequently visited Clemson, Georgia and Tennessee during the last year including a trip to Knoxville for its win over Alabama last fall and for a pair of visits during 2023.

Matthews has been to instate Georgia three times in the last year with a pair of fall unofficial visits and another unofficial visit in March. The five-star has also visited Clemson three times in the last year including twice in 2023.

The Parkview High School standout’s last official visit during June is to Tennessee which bodes well for the Vols in their quest to land the five-star receiver.

Tennessee’s 2024 recruiting class currently contains 12 commits but just one receiver commit: four-star Mississippi receiver JJ Harrell.

The Vols’ 12 commit recruiting class currently ranks eighth nationally according to the 247sports team rankings.
