Tennessee basketball has had plenty of success over the last three seasons and the numbers bear it out. Over the last three seasons (since 2020-21), Tennessee has the most wins and the best record in the SEC against ranked opponents.
The Vols are 14-11 (56%) against ranked teams in that time frame, earning two wins over ranked teams in 2020-21, seven wins over ranked teams in 2021-22 and five wins over ranked teams last season.
During that stretch Tennessee has top 10 wins over No. 6 Arizona (2021-22), No. 4 Kentucky (2021-22), No. 3 Auburn (2021-22), No. 5 Kentucky (2021-22), No. 3 Kansas (2022-23), No. 10 Texas (2022-23) and No. 1 Alabama (2022-23).
That equates to seven wins in two seasons over top 10 teams and five wins in two seasons over top five teams.
The Vols have been in the nation’s top 25 for the entirety of the last two seasons and for a large part of the 2020-21 season.
Both Tennessee’s 14 wins and 56% win percentage over ranked teams is the best in the conference. Alabama is second in the SEC in both categories with a 13-12 (52%) record. The Vols and Crimson Tide are the only two SEC teams with winning records against ranked teams in that time frame.
Behind Tennessee and Alabama is Missouri (11-12), Arkansas (11-14) and Auburn (7-8). The real kicker is that Kentucky is 6-16 against ranked teams in this time frame with four of its ranked wins coming over Tennessee.
Tennessee is also tied with Alabama and Arkansas for having played the most games against ranked teams over the last three years. Check out the full numbers for the entire SEC here.
