Tennessee football went a long way to land its final piece of its 2023 recruiting class. England defensive end Emmanuel Okoye committed and signed with the Vols over Texas Tech and Southern Cal Wednesday morning.

A Nigeria native, Okoye plays football at the NFL Academy in London which is how he generated interest from Tennessee and a handful of other college programs.

Okoye made the trip across the Atlantic Ocean last month and took visits to Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Texas Tech and USC in a week span. The 6-foot-5, 230 pound athlete cut Vanderbilt from his top group after the visits before choosing the Vols over the Red Raiders and Trojans.

When on his visit to the United States, Okoye was poised to be a member of the 2024 recruiting class and spend one more year in England before enrolling in an American university. But Okoye’s plans changed and he signs with the Vols in the 2023 cycle and will enroll in summer classes at Tennessee.

Okoye ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 441 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings.

Tennessee’s 2023 EDGE rusher signees were already one of the biggest strengths of the class. The Vols add the blue chip Okoye to a group that includes top 150 recruits Caleb Herring and Chandavian Bradley as well as three-star Nathan Robinson.

The Vols’ 2023 recruiting class now contains 26 members and ranks 10th nationally according to the 247sports team rankings.
