There might be four months until the 2023-24 NFL season begins, but it’s never too early to start thinking about what’s ahead. Virtually everything the league does is newsworthy, and that includes the schedule release on Thursday, May 11.
While that’s exciting all by itself, it’s even better news for sports bettors. Now they have NFL Week 1 Betting Odds to analyze and perhaps place a wager if they think they can get the best number now.
Two of the top online sportsbooks released point spreads, moneylines, and totals for all 16 games that will be played in Week 1. Other sports betting apps likely will follow suit in the near future.
The NFL Kick-Off Game will be Thursday, Sept. 7, when the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs play host to the Detroit Lions. Let’s take a closer look at that point spread and the point spreads released for all of the other games in Week 1.

NFL Week 1 Highlights
Three of the 16 games in Week 1 pit 2023 playoff teams against one another, but several others are noteworthy because of offseason player moves. Here’s a look at some of the headliner games. If you’re looking to place a wager or two on these games, make sure you take advantage of the thousands of dollars available in sports betting bonuses.
Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs (-6.5)
The NFL’s yearly tradition of having the reigning Super Bowl champion play in the opening game at home continues with QB Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs playing host to the spunky Detroit Lions. Detroit has been a bit of a darling the last two seasons thanks to a no-nonsense head coach and more wins than usual. Because of that, the Lions are likely to be a bet-on team in the offseason and early in the regular season. Can they hang with the champs in Arrowhead Stadium, though? That remains to be seen. Don’t be surprised if this point spread gets up to 7 or above before the game kicks off.
Dallas Cowboys (-2) at New York Giants
This NFC East rivalry will be the first Sunday Night game of the season, and it surely will be a great one. Both teams won playoff games last season. In the case of the Giants, it was a great accomplishment for first-year coach Brian Daboll to take his team on the road and beat Minnesota in the Wild Card Round. In the case of the Cowboys, however, it was another frustrating season of underachieving. Dallas has not advanced to the NFC Championship game since 1995, and if QB Dak Prescott doesn’t get it done again this coming season, how long will he be welcome at Jerry World? The Giants will have higher expectations, too, now that QB Daniel Jones has signed a contract extension.
Buffalo Bills (-1.5) at New York Jets
The Week 1 finale on Monday Night could be quite the spectacle. For the first time in nearly two decades, QB Aaron Rodgers will not be wearing a Green Bay uniform. Instead, he’ll don a different shade of green with the Jets. The Jets started strong but fizzled last season and never had consistent quarterback play. The defense is good enough, so now it’s time to see if Rodgers can elevate the offense. The Bills’ offense, on the other hand, is likely to be high-flying once again. There will be a time and place for Buffalo and its fans to worry about the postseason stumbles from the last two seasons, but on the first Monday Night game of the 2023 regular season, QB Josh Allen will try to outduel one of the NFL’s all-time greats in Rodgers.
