The University of Alabama terminated baseball coach Brad Bohannon Thursday morning amidst multiple scandals that have emerged in the last month.
“Alabama director of athletics Greg Byrne announced he has initiated the termination process for head baseball coach Brad Bohannon for, among other things, violating the standards, duties, and responsibilities expected of University employees,” Alabama said in a statement.
Former Alabama baseball player Johnny Blake Bennett sued Bohannon, pitching coach Jason Jackson and athletic trainer Sean Stryker last month for alleged negligence, wantonness and breach of agreement while dealing with an injury Bennett suffered.
Alabama backed Bohannon following the lawsuit, releasing this statement to the Tuscaloosa Daily News in the days following the lawsuit.
“The University does not comment on pending litigation, but looks forward to sharing the actual facts with the court. The mental and physical well-being of its student-athletes is of the utmost importance to the University. We have supreme confidence in our coaching staffs and provide our student-athletes with access to the best sports medicine personnel and sports psychology practitioners in the country.”

The lawsuit seems unlikely to be the main cause of Bohannon’s termination as pitching coach Jason Jackson was named the Crimson Tide’s interim head coach.
Another off the field incident emerged in recent days as multiple states have banned sportsbooks from accepting bets on Alabama baseball games. Those decisions stemmed from suspicious activities taking place in the Crimson Tide’s weekend series against LSU.
Bohannon posted a 166-124 record in his six-year tenure but went just 48-91 in SEC play. The Crimson Tide made the NCAA Tournament once under Bohannon, losing in the regionals of the 2021 NCAA Tournament. Bohannon came to Alabama from Auburn where he served as the Tigers assistant coach.
