The Tennessee baseball department is continuing to bring out the stars of campus for the honorary first pitch before games.

The latest to throw the first pitch was none other than Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel as he enters his third year on campus. Heupel, the left-handed former quarterback, tossed out the pitch to pitcher Kirby Connell behind the plate. The crowd couldn’t help but playfully chuckle after the former national champion skipped the pitch to home plate.

Heupel’s pitch came before No. 18 Tennessee hosted Wofford on Tuesday night in Knoxville.

After the pitch, Tennessee redshirt-junior defensive lineman Elijah Simmons sang the National Anthem for the crowd. Simmons has been known to be a great singer for a long time now on several different occasions. While the 6-foot-2, 340 pound lineman is one of Tennessee’s nastiest players on the field, Simmons has an impressive voice.

Heupel’s first pitch appearance on Tuesday night comes after a long stretch of campus celebrities over the past few weeks.

Going back to the Vanderbilt series two weeks ago, Tennessee softball and Team USA legend Monica Abbott threw out the first pitch on Friday before former Tennessee and current Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh Dobbs threw the pitch later in the weekend.

Then, during Tennessee’s next home series this past weekend against Mississippi State, Tennessee women’s basketball head coach Kellie Harper and Tennessee guard Santiago Vescovi both threw out the pitch during the weekend.

After Tuesday’s game, the Vols will then travel to Athens for a series with Georgia this weekend before returning home for a weekend series with Kentucky afterward.

Tennessee’s final home game of the regular season will be on Tuesday, May 16, for a midweek matchup with Belmont.
