Tennessee wide receiver and preferred walk-on Nigel Lanier has entered the transfer portal.

Lanier marks the second Vol to enter the transfer portal as the second window to enter comes to a close, as redshirt-freshman defensive back Cameron Miller entered on Monday morning.

Lanier announced the news via his Twitter and Instagram on Monday afternoon.

A late commit in the 2021 class, Lanier committed to Josh Heupel and his staff in early May of 2021 and came to Tennessee in July as a preferred walk-on.

Lanier did not log a statistic during two seasons on Rocky Top, as he found himself buried in the depth chart under high-caliber wideouts Cedric Tillman, Velus Jones Jr., Jalin Hyatt, Bru McCoy, JaVonta Payton and others.

The Huntsville, Alabama, native did get a fair share of work in Tennessee’s 2023 Orange and White game, catching two passes for 17 yards.

Despite seeing no time on the field during his time at Tennessee, Lanier excelled in the classroom. The North Jackson High School product landed on the Fall 2022 SEC Honor Roll as a Sports Management major at UT. Lanier was part of a record-breaking group, as Tennessee put a department-record 91 players on the SEC Honor Roll in the fall.

Entering the 2023 season as a redshirt-sophomore, Lanier has three years of eligibility remaining.
