Tennessee and Vanderbilt had a drama-filled game on Friday night to begin the three-game series in Knoxville. The Vols turned a ninth-inning comeback into a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 12th inning to stop a four-game losing streak and take the first game over the in-state rival.
Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Tennessee’s Kavares Tears began the comeback with a solo shot to bring the game to 3-2, which was then followed by a solo shot frmo Dylan Dreiling to tie the game at 3-3 and send the game into extra innings.
Just about half an hour later, after a string of dominant innings from starter-turned-relief pitcher Chase Burns, Tennessee’s Griffin Merritt sent everyone home with a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 12th inning.
