Tennessee freshman tight end Ethan Davis exited last week’s Orange-and-White game in its final minutes with an injury.
At Thursday’s Big Orange Caravan stop in Knoxville, Tennessee coach Josh Heupel offered up limited details on the talented tight end’s injury.
“Collarbone,” Heupel said. “We anticipate him be ready to go in a short amount of time.”
This isn’t the first collarbone issue Davis has dealt with. The four-star tight end suffered a broken collarbone early in his high school senior season at Collins Hill and missed the entirety of the season.
The good news for Davis, and Tennessee, is that fall camp doesn’t begin for over three months and the season doesn’t begin for over four months. Davis is poised to be ready for the start of fall camp.

That is good news on to begin with and even better news given how impressive Davis was this spring. The 6-foot-5, 228 pound tight end is a dynamic pass catcher as he showed in the spring game where he caught three passes for 57 yards.
Davis’ spring game performance was just a glimpse of what he can do as a pass catcher. If the highly touted freshman can develop enough as a blocker he will earn serious playing time as a freshman due to the Vols’ thin tight end room.
Jacob Warren is back for his super senior season but Princeton Fant is off to the NFL. Davis and UC Davis tight end McCallen Castles are competing to earn opportunities behind the experienced Tennessee starter.
