Tennessee football made the top five for blue chip athlete PJ Woodland Tuesday morning, the Mississippi native shared on Twitter.

The Vols joined Florida State, Mississippi State, Texas and Texas A&M in the four-star recruit’s top group.

Woodland ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 362 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The Hattiesburg native also ranks as the No. 35 athlete in the country and No. 13 player in the state of Mississippi.

The 6-foot, 165 pound athlete’s college position is unclear but Woodland is poised to play either receiver or defensive back in the college ranks.

Woodland has been relatively active taking visits during the recruitment process though a handful of those visits didn’t go to teams in his top five. The four-star visited Ole Miss three times from football season to now and took a March visit to Auburn. Neither team made his top group.

The Mississippi native did visit Mississippi State for a game last fall and took a March unofficial visit to Texas. Tennessee has yet to get Woodland on campus for an unofficial visit. If the Vols are going to become a serious player in Woodland’s recruitment than Josh Heupel and his staff need to get the blue chip recruit on campus.

Tennessee has seven players currently committed in its 2024 recruiting class including one receiver and two defensive backs. The Vols are in deep with a number of other top receivers and four-star defensive backs as Heupel’s staff has done the groundwork to land strong classes at both positions.

Tennessee’s seven commit recruiting class currently ranks seventh nationally according to the 247sports team rankings.
