First Overall Draft Pick Odds Movement
Going back to May 2022 when the 2023 NFL Draft Odds first opened, Stroud, Young, and Alabama linebacker Will Anderson were bunched closely together as the clear favorites for the first overall draft pick. Stroud was a slight favorite at +200, with Young and Anderson at +225 and +300, respectively.
We had our first dramatic odds shift in January 2023 when Young overtook Stroud and became the odds-on favorite at -110 while Stroud stayed around +200.
These odds continued in that direction, going as far as -180 for Young and +300 for Stroud until the Carolina Panthers shook up the draft by trading with the Chicago Bears for the No. 1 overall spot.
After the Panthers’ trade, Stroud became an overwhelming favorite, reaching as low as -275 or shorter. Young saw his odds reach as long as +300 before bettors started to pour in to take the potential value.
High-profile NFL media reports and draft analysts have still been in favor of Bryce Young at the first overall pick, which has moved the odds to where they are today. Most recently, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen stated Young will be the pick at one for Carolina as the entire Panthers organization “love Bryce Young”.
