Tennessee basketball is looking to punch its ticket to the Elite Eight for just the second time in program history when it faces off against Florida Atlantic at Madison Square Garden Thursday night.

The Vols are back in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2019 after knocking off 13-seed Louisiana and 5-seed Duke in the opening weekend of the tournament in Orlando.

Florida Atlantic is in the Sweet 16 after winning a thriller against Memphis and outlasting Fairleigh-Dickinson in Columbus last week.

Here’s everything you need to know about the matchup.

What Rick Barnes Said About The Owls

On what he’s learned about Florida Atlantic

“Well, they certainly catch your attention early in the year when they went to Florida and won at Florida, something we didn’t do. Any program, team that wins 33 games, I don’t care what league you’re in, because it’s hard. All jobs are hard and difficult jobs, but for them to go through that, the first word that would come to my mind is consistency, because to do that day in and day out, knowing that they became the team that everybody was wanting to beat and gear up for. And you look at their team, they’re smart, they know each other well, great concepts on the offensive end, very sound defensively, and they should be a very highly confident team, because again, you win 33 games, it speaks volumes. No doubt all that they’ve done, they’ve earned it.”

On defending FAU’s three-point shooting

“It’s a challenge, it really is. They shoot it with confidence. They really do a good job of knowing where each guy is one the court. They do a good job of getting in gaps and passing the ball, delivering it on the money. They have some guys that have as quick of a realize as anybody we’ve played against all year. Where the pass is there, they don’t need any time to get it off. But they spread it out and run really good offense. Like I said, 33 wins to me speaks for everything that they’re about.”
