Four-star safety Fred Gaskin III announced he will visit Tennessee on April 3 Monday night. It will be the Florida native’s first visit to Knoxville as the Vols attempt to become a serious player in his recruitment.

Gaskin released a top eight including Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Florida State, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Penn State and Tennessee back in January.

The 5-foot-11 defensive back ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 249 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. Gaskin also ranks as the No. 21 safety in the country and No. 38 player in the state of Florida.

While Gaskin’s April visit will be his first to Tennessee, it won’t be near his first recruiting visit. Ironically, Gaskin has taken more visits to Florida (five) than any other school and the Gators did not make his top eight.

Gaskin took three visits during Alabama during 2022 including one during the season in addition to a June visit to Florida State.

Tennessee and assistant coach Willie Martinez are off to a strong start recruiting defensive backs in the 2023 recruiting cycle. The Vols landed four-star Nashville corner Kaleb Beasley and four-star safety Marcus Goree Jr. and are in the top group for a number of other blue-chip defensive backs.

Tennessee football’s five commit 2023 recruiting class ranks ninth nationally according to the 247sports team rankings.
