Tennessee Baseball head coach Tony Vitello met with the media Sunday afternoon following the Vols’ 17-9 series-sweeping win over Gonzaga.
Vitello shared the thought process behind having shortstop Maui Ahuna leadoff for the first time this season. Ahuna had 4 RBI in the win, his most in a game as a Vol.
OF/DH Jared Dickey also had 4 RBI, all coming on a grand slam. Dickey hit in the five-hole for the first time this season, and Vitello noted that Dickey can do it all.
“Jared is such a good kid, good worker and skilled now, I think you can kind of do, offensively, whatever you think is best,” Vitello said.

The Vols’ skipper added that the new-look lineup is one he’s confident in using at any point during the season.
“The way we had that lineup, we talked about it as a staff and threw it together today, I think we’re in a good position to score runs with that group the way that it is,” Vitello said.
Vitello also touched on what it was like for Drew Beam to pitch in a slugfest, his post-game message to the team and more.
