Tennessee Baseball head coach Tony Vitello met with the media Saturday night to discuss the Vols’ 7-2 win over Gonzaga that gave the Vols the series win.
Vitello talked sophomore Chase Burns’ start, Tennessee’s five-run seventh inning, Kyle Booker’s home run and more.
Vitello’s entire postgame press conference video is below.
Tennessee achieved the series-clinching win over the Zags due to a seventh-inning explosion at the plate that included a three-run home run from Blake Burke and a two-run shot from Cincinnati transfer Griffin Merritt. Burke’s and Merritt’s bombs gave the Vols a 7-2 lead after seven innings that would ultimately serve as the final score.
The Vols tied the game with a Kyle Booker solo homer deep over the right center wall in the sixth inning. Booker’s blast came with two outs and was huge for Tennessee, at the time, to tie the game, considering the Vols were mostly struggling against Gonzaga starter Jacob Rutherford.
Tennessee will look to go for the series sweep on Sunday against the Bulldogs. First pitch is at 1 p.m. ET in Lindsey Nelson Stadium (SECN+).
