Tennessee Basketball Seeding Locked In For SEC Tournament

Tennessee basketball is locked in as a five-seed in next week’s SEC Tournament. Falling in its regular season finale at Auburn, Tennessee went 11-6 in conference play while losing its last five road games of the year.

The Vols are tied with Missouri for the fourth place in the SEC but the Tigers own the tie breaker over Tennessee due to their game winner in Knoxville last month.

Vanderbilt could make it a three-way tie for fourth place if they beat Mississippi State tonight, but the Vols hold the tiebreaker over the Commodores due to beating SEC Champion Alabama.

The 2023 SEC Tournament marks the first time since the 2016-17 season that Tennessee hasn’t earned a double-bye in the conference tournament.

Tennessee was going to be an eight-seed in the 2020 SEC Tournament but COVID-19 cancelled the remainder of the season before the Vols faced Alabama on Thursday.

The Vols will face the winner of Wednesday night’s game between No. 12 seed South Carolina and No. 13 seed Ole Miss. Tennessee went 3-0 against the two teams in the regular season, beating South Carolina by a combined 83 points in two games and winning close at Ole Miss.

Tennessee will be in the afternoon session of the SEC Tournament in Nashville and will face the winner of Ole Miss-South Carolina at approximately 3 p.m. ET Thursday.
