Tennessee Baseball head coach Tony Vitello met with the media on Wednesday night to discuss the Vols’ 8-2 win and midweek series sweep over Charleston Southern.

Vitello reflected on RHP AJ Russell’s start and what he’s seen from the freshman this season.

“He’s a confident kid, but there’s no way he’s more confident in himself than the coaching staff is,” Vitello said. “We believe in him a lot… It’s exciting, more than anything, to see how well he’s doing. And also, Christian Moore and Frank (Anderson) and I were in the corner of the dugout talking, he’s just kind of knocking on the door of what he can do in the long run.”

Vitello also shared his thoughts on Blake Burke and what his impact has been for the team over the past few games.

“When you watch him swing, anybody could size up the swing and say that’s a good swing,” Vitello said. “But if you were with him in the dugout last year and had a vibe from him of how much pride he had in his work, how much he wanted to win, and how good of a teammate he is. Mix all that together… you know he’s going to be a good really good player for us and a good presence.”
