Tennessee Baseball head coach Tony Vitello met with the media following the Vols’ 6-1 midweek win over Charleston Southern to discuss what it was like having starting shortstop back in the lineup for his season debut.
Specifically, Vitello talked about what the moment was like when the team learned that Ahuna was officially eligible for the 2023 season.
“It was in the weight room, then he kinda took over from there,” Vitello said. “I believe there was a Haka dance going on and all kind of stuff… probably one that goes in the memory bank for this team.”
Additionally, Vitello spoke on what the process was like regarding his suspension and how it felt to be back in the dugout after a three-game absence.
“It felt outstanding at the start of the day,” Vitello said. “And then when the actions start pre-game, whether it’s playoff game, road game or home game, you got routines you have to stick to… While it was exciting for everybody, yesterday was the day that was kind of ‘everyone act a fool,’ And then today was down to business.”
Vitello also spoke on Kirby Connell and Seth Halvorsen’s performances and more following the Vols’ seventh consecutive win.
