Tennessee Baseball catcher Charlie Taylor and left-handed relief pitcher Zander Sechrist met with the media following the Vols’ 23-1 win over Alabama A&M.
Taylor recapped his monster two HR, five RBI night over the Bulldogs, and Sechrist discussed his night and his thoughts on how he’s performed this season.
“After the first at-bat, I was a little frustrated,” Taylor said. “On the second at-bat, I kind of just turned my mind off and let my swing work for me.”
After an unsuccessful first at-bat, Taylor went on to hit a triple, an RBI single, and two home runs.
Taylor noted that a night like this can certainly help his confidence moving forward.
“It’s definitely a confidence booster… I knew that I was capable [of this], and it’s pretty cool to have a night like that.”
In addition to Sechrist sharing his thoughts on how he did Wednesday, the Georgia native discussed how he’s felt he’s done as a whole to begin the season.
“Personally, not very great,” Sechrist said. “But overall, just whatever I got to do to get outs and not try to walk guys. Just get outs and do the best for the team.”
Sechrist also went on to talk about how there’s no shortage of competition among the bullpen arms.
“Yeah, everyone is competing. In these non conferences, it’s all about competing the best way you can. And in the fall, there’s definitely a competition out there. But it goes back to whatever V (Tony Vitello) is comfortable with, he’ll put you in a role to succeed.”
