The Tennessee baseball season is officially on deck.
The No.2-ranked Vols will begin the season in the MLB Desert Invitational tournament from Arizona this weekend, with three strong matchups on tap.
Tennessee will start the weekend with a meeting against Arizona on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. ET. The Vols will then play Grand Canyon at 8:00 p.m. ET on Saturday night before closing the weekend with a game against UC San Diego on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. ET.
Once again led by head coach Tony Vitello, the Vols are looking to improve on last year’s early postseason exit. Tennessee posted a remarkable 57-9 regular season record and held the No. 1 ranking in the country for the vast majority of the season. Still, though, Tennessee’s hopes of reaching Omaha were dashed after a loss to Notre Dame in the Knoxville Super Regional last year.
While Tennessee did lose impressive players such as Drew Gilbert and Jordan Beck, the Vols are returning a boatload of talent, including the entire three-man starting pitching rotation. Tennessee also brought in strong players from the transfer portal such as infielders Maui Ahuna and Zane Denton.
Prior to the start of the season, Tennessee dropped a new hype video on social media. The video starts out with Vitello speaking after Tennessee’s loss to Notre Dame before moving into highlights to excite the fanbase for the newest season.
