For the second time in the last week, No. 6 Tennessee suffered heartbreak on the basketball court at the hands of a buzzer-beating three-point make.
While this wasn’t the defensive breakdown that Tennessee had against Vanderbilt on Wednesday, the Vols still felt the pain of defeat as Missouri’s DeAndre Gholston knocked down the shot from nearly half-court to put the Tigers over the edge.
Missouri won the game over Tennessee by a score of 86-85 in Thompson Boling Arena.

After the contest, Missouri head coach Dennis Gates gave his perspective of the game and spoke about what Tennessee was able to do well as the Vols climbed back from a 17-point deficit in the second half. Gates mentioned two players in particular, Jahmai Mashack and Tobe Awaka, that gave the Tigers significant trouble in the second half of the game.
Gates also gave credit to Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes for his job in the second half.
Speaking of Barnes, the Tennessee head coach was the next to talk to the media as he gave his reactions to the game. Barnes spoke about the dual nature of feeling disappointed in the outcome but also proud of the efforts of his team.
Tennessee guards Tyreke Key and Jahmai Mashack followed Barnes’s press conference.
